Two big programs in May: 15th potluck and 16th program — both with Australian grower

Dendrobium discolor

[The following is by Glenn Lessenden, OSGKC Program Chairperson]

Greetings everyone. The May meeting will be Sunday May 16 at the Broadway United Methodist Church. Beginners will meet at 1:00 and the regular meeting will follow at 2:00. Our speaker will be Brain Gerhard of  Down Under Native Orchids, Wamberal,  Australia. Brian’s presentation will be on “a walking/driving tour through North Queensland with native flora (orchids) and fauna.” Brian will be bringing plants for sale, and pre-orders are possible from the advance plant list that was e-mailed previously. Hopefully this program will add a little international flavor to our orchid experience.

As Brian is coming so far and has several programs to offer, I can’t see letting him get away with just one presentation while he’s here. If you have read the advance plant list, you were probably as shocked as I at the cost of the Dendrobium speciosum divisions he offers. Brian also gives a presentation on Dendrobium speciosum, and I for one would like to hear it and learn more about those plants. So, I will host a pot-luck dinner at my house open to all interested members (spouses/enablers welcome) Saturday evening May 15. The plan is to meet at 4-5:00pm, dinner at 6:00 and Brian’s presentation on Dendrobium speciosum at 7:00. I’ll provide barbeque and the price of admission will be a side dish and whatever you want to drink. Please let me know by Wednesday May 12 if you plan to attend. I hope to see everyone for a fun weekend.

Glenn
